The 7 Dos and Don’ts of Fundraising

Whether fundraising for a tournament or new equipment, hitting your goal is vital. As fundraising experts, here are some of our top tips for knocking your next fundraiser out of the park.

Do: Be Realistic

It’s good to have goals, but it’s even better to have realistic ones. Before you start your fundraiser, know the amount needed to fundraise – and what it’s realistic to ask your community for. A too ambitious goal can feel daunting and may turn donors and fundraisers off from your campaign.

Don’t: Fly Solo

Fundraising is a community effort. Loop in team members, colleagues, families, and community members to help spread the word, get people excited about your fundraiser, and take on essential tasks. There’s power in delegation! Not only that, but giving people opportunities to get involved is a great way to build relationships and strengthen your community.

Do: Offer Incentives

The fuzzy feeling that comes with doing good only goes so far. Incentivize people to give – and give more! – by offering incentives such as snacks and treats, tickets to an event they’ll love, merchandise, or even a membership. The more reasons they have to give, the more likely they will!

Don’t: Make it Hard

If someone has to jump through hoops to make a donation, they’re less likely to go through with the transaction. Take multiple types of payment, be clear about what you’re offering, and make it happen on the spot. With an all-in-one platform like MoneyDolly, donating is as easy as tapping a button.

Do: Thank Your Donors!

Donors don’t have to give. Every donation is a mark of generosity – and should be appreciated as such. Track your donors, and be sure to send them a thank you when your fundraiser closes. You can even entice them to donate again by updating them on how your fundraiser is going and where donated funds are being allocated.

Don’t: Be All Business

We know that you’re here to fundraise – but you’re also here to build community relationships. In your donor outreach, highlight what you’re all about and how the fundraiser will help. Share team stories and wins beyond those related to the fundraiser. Show your human side!

Do: Use MoneyDolly!

We’re biased, but for good reason. People who fundraise with MoneyDolly raise more – and have a better experience as well. Our all-in-one peer-to-peer fundraising app lets you easily set up your fundraiser and then push the word out to anyone on your contacts list.
